Hi! I am so excited for the 2019-2020 school year!  I was born and raised in Orinda, a small town on the other side of the Berkeley hills. I graduated from University of California, Davis with a double major in Political Science and History. Shortly after graduating, I started a tutoring business in the East Bay Area, and I discovered that I enjoyed teaching math. I earned my teaching credential from Cal State East Bay and started teaching math at a middle school charter school in Natomas. Along the way I received my Master of Education with an emphasis on Curriculum and Coordination, and I also hold an Administrative Services Credential.
My husband and I are the parents of two adorable little girls: Arya (7), who is starting second grade this year, and Kaitlin (4). We live in Rocklin and have been here since 2007.  I enjoy spending as much time with my family as possible: riding bikes, swimming, going to parks, visiting family, etc. I also enjoy running, reading, gardening, and learning. One fun fact about me is that I have dual citizenship (United States and Norway).
My teaching philosophy is that anyone can be successful in math when given the right circumstances.  It is my mission to make every day be those right circumstances.  I try to stay away from lectures and instead let students learn math through exploration and by being mathematicians.  Mathematicians do perform calculations at times, but they also ask questions, propose solutions, reason, make connections, justify and critique to their peers, and look for patterns. These are the practices I want to instill in my students, and in doing so, I hope to make math class fun and interesting. Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions or concerns.
