Term
Quarter 4
Department
(d) Science
Description
Course Description
Prerequisite: None
Co-requisite: Pre-Algebra

Students will learn:
• About the relationship between average speed, distance, and time,
• About the difference between vector and scalar concepts.
• To map forces in a ‘free body diagram’ and identify the net force and the resulting change in velocity of an object.
• About simple machines (levers, pulleys, ect…) and density (buoyancy).
• About our solar system, and on the relationship between gravity and heating in the life cycle of stars.
• About components of an atom, including how electron orbit patterns define chemical interactions.
• About the patterns in the Periodic Table of the Elements.
• About different types of chemical bonds, the notation of chemical reactions, and even some of the features and names of organic chemicals.  When conducting laboratory experiments, students will distinguish between variable, controlled, independent, and dependent parameters, will relate the parameters with simple formulas, and will evaluate the accuracy of their results. Students will learn methods for estimating and calculating errors and troubleshooting procedures.
