Pre-Algebra (Period 2) Assignments

We'll be retaking our chapter 8 test later this week. Review, come in for help, and be studying!

Chap 8 Test on Tuesday (tomorrow) and Wednesday. Thank you to those who came in for Core Advisory today - I know that extra effort will pay off!

The Chap 8 Test is coming up on Tuesday/Wednesday of next week, so be ready with questions on Monday.

Be sure to make a t-chart. When you have an equation that isn't solved for a specific variable, solve for one.

For example, 2x - y = 8 is probably more useful if it's rewritten as y = 2x - 8.

Make sure to make T-charts! Remember that your x-values go horizontally (left/right), and y-values go vertically (up/down).

Homework handed out in class. If you were absent, please do this assignment instead.

In addition to the pdf file, there are 5 "formula" problems I want you to do. They are made up, just to help us move variables around in an equation, but come get them from me if you did not get the handout in class (they are the hand-written ones on the page from class).

Please, please, please, go to khanacademy.org and/or mathtv.com and watch the video tutorials on multi-step equations. We need more practice, and the more exposure to being taught the concept, the better! We'll be taking our Chap 7 Test on Thurs/Fri, and were really weak in this area on the test.

Sorry for the late post (thanks to those who emailed to remind me). Our pre-test didn't go as well as hoped, so we'll push the chap 7 test back to Thurs/Fri of this coming week. We'll still be starting our new material as well, so we'll need to really take advantage of the in-class review times as well as Core Advisory.

In addition, here are a few video tutorials that might help you with two-step and multi-step equations. Please take some time and watch some them - I think they will be very helpful.

For the khanacademy.org videos, I'd recommend the Two-Step Equations, Multi-Step Equations, and Equations with Variables on Both Sides. The first link below goes to the Two-Step Equations, and you can click the link above the video to see the other two.

For the mathtv.com videos, the topics should be listed out on the left. Click the word "Algebra" (not the arrow), then the phrase "Linear Equations in 1 Variable". Any of the 8 topics listed, other than Absolute Value, could probably be very helpful. You can watch different people work through and explain example problems (even in Spanish, si es mejor para usted).

Chap 7 Practice Test. Remember, we'll have the pre-test on Thurs/Fri. If you can earn an A or B, you don't need to take the regular test later on.

No official homework tonight. Students have been given their missing assignment report, and need to be VERY proactive about making up tests ASAP. With my wife being pregnant and the baby coming soon, I don't want their to be any students ending up with difficulties making up assignments and/or tests while I am out.

Our chapter 7 test will be coming up soon, so be reviewing and coming in for core advisory!

7-7 Simple and Compound Interest
If you don't remember the formulas for interest, check 7-7. If you don't remember the area formulas for the polygons and circles, check your past homework, chapter 10, or your index.

7-6 Transforming formulas packet

1. Signed grade update - Grade update outlines our new grading policy within the math department. We will now be grading homework in class, and students will earn points for CORRECTNESS, not only completeness. Because of this, we will lower homework to 5% of the overall grade, with quizzes being 10% and tests being 85%.

2. 7-3 Two-Step Equations with Fractions and Decimals

7-2 handout from class due on Monday.

The assignment that was due today in class is now due Thursday due to the State Writing Assessment taken today. There is no new homework.

Study for the chapter 5 in-class retake on Thurs/Fri.

Chapter 6 Practice Test due on Monday. Test will be on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Complete the quiz from today if you didn't finish. We'll be grading those first thing next class.

If you have any tests that you still need to retake, please do the Chapter Review from the book for that chapter, the odds. Show all your work, as this will be very helpful in seeing what areas you have caught up on, and which we might need to sit down and work through together.
