Algebra 2 (Period 1) Assignments

Take 1 arithmetic and 1 geometric series or sequence, and write out, in sentences, how you find the formula (equation) for it.

Study over your conics test - we'll be taking a benchmark including them on Tues/Wed. Also, if you need a retake on anything, you want to get it done this week. If you have two or more retakes you need, focus in and try to get at least two done this week.

The homework is the Sequences and Series packet, which has some chapter 10 review on it. If you would like and/or benefit from some additional practice on chap 10, there is also the Chap 10 Practice Test attached. IT IS NOT HOMEWORK (won't be collected for a score), but certainly can help.

Chap 10 Test on Thurs/Fri.

1st Period, great job on today's test. 5th and 6th period, be studying tonight for the test tomorrow (Friday). The assignment on conics is due on Monday.

Conic Sections: Circles and Ellipses. If you haven't yet downloaded geogebra, I recommend it highly. Feel free to use it to HELP, though you obviously need to still show your work.

Chap 9 Test will be on Thurs/Fri. Please, come get help and/or use khanacademy.org or mathtv.com for online tutoring.

We'll be starting conic sections Tues/Wed, which will be tough (just a heads-up).

9-5, 9-6 Continued Work with Rationals HW

Linked are two examples from khanacademy.org. There are multiple examples on the khanacademy.org website beyond just these two. Also, for more examples, please go to mathtv.com and search by topic. Along the bar on the left, click on Algebra, then Rational Expressions. Videos listed under Multiply and Divide, Add and Subtract, and Equations Containing could all be very helpful.

The graphs are going to be tough - make sure you are finding your asymptotes and making a t-chart. Plug in numbers (fractions/decimals included) around the asymptotes to get an idea of what the graph is doing.

For those of you who brought today's assignment (9-4) home to continue working on it, make sure you bring it back Tues/Wed!

No official homework tonight. Students have been given their missing assignment report, and need to be VERY proactive about making up tests ASAP. With my wife being pregnant and the baby coming soon, I don't want their to be any students ending up with difficulties making up assignments and/or tests while I am out.

1. Signed grade update - Grade update outlines our new grading policy within the math department. We will now be grading homework in class, and students will earn points for CORRECTNESS, not only completeness. Because of this, we will lower homework to 5% of the overall grade, with quizzes being 10% and tests being 85%.

Students are to create their own two-variable system of equations. Each of the two equations should have a fraction and a decimal included. Create your own x and y values. Then, solve using (1) substitution, (2) elimination, (3) determinants/Cramer's rule, and (4) augmented matrices. You will know if you are getting the correct answer because you should end up with the same x and y you chose to begin with. As always, SHOW ALL YOUR WORK!!!
