Complete your Death of a Salesman Reading Journal in preparation for your Death of a Salesman Essay Outlin test. You may have a paper copy of your reading journal with you the day of the Essay.
Reading Journal Instructions:
Illustrate each of the Aristotle’s ideas on tragedy (both his 6 characteristics as well as his definition of tragedy as we broke it down). Find the quote. Explain how it relates to tragedy and add your thoughts on the quote.
You need a quote for each of the following
- Thought-what can be said and should be said at each moment
- Diction- how it is said (memorable lines)
- Melody- the beat, rhythm, or tone blending to create something pleasing
- Spectacle- where staging helps the play move and make sense
Character - The characters must be good in some way.
- The characters should act appropriately for their gender and station.
- The characters have to have believable personalities.
- Each character must act consistently throughout the play.
Plot - Peripety- the change from things at the beginning of the play to the exact opposite state by the end of the play.
- Discovery- is a change from ignorance to knowledge.
- Misery-a good man going from happiness to misery
- Horrible or evil deed- arouses fear for the characters
