English 9 (Period 5) Assignments

Summer reading for Sophomore Year.

Student last summative assignment is due Monday May 9th.  It is a research project and PowerPoint presentation.  To help support student success there are 5 formative check points leading up to the final grade.  The schedule is included in the document attached below.  The grading will happen for this during the students presentations, that will begin on May 9th as well.  The research proposal also attached below is due next Monday, April 18th.

The last reminder, that the Research Presentation in English 9 is due Monday, May 9th.  Presentations begin on this day.  

The outline for the English research project is due Monday.  They had all day today to work on it.  The next week in class students will have class time to put together their presentations.  

We are up to chapter 9 and 10 in the Red Scarf Girl.  Chapters 11 and 12 Will be due Monday.  By the end of next week we will be finishing the book.  All questions are uploaded when appropriate to Google Classroom.

The Works Cited page for the research project is due Th/Friday.  I will be checking this off each students Google Slides page in class that day.

Students have chapter questions for the Red Scarf Girl.  They will be due on a regular basis.  Chapter 3 and 4 questions are due T/W this week.  All questions will be posted on Google Classroom.  Chapters 1 and 2 were due today.

This is just a reminder that the commercial analysis sheet is due Tues/Wed.

Ad Analysis is due Thursday.   Assigned on 3/15/16.

Sorry parents, they switched out our computers (a good thing), but I had to look for this web address.  I just found it.  Please check in with your student to see if they turned in their comparison essay last Friday 3/11.  If they haven't please encourage them to turn it ASAP to turnitin.com.  Also, we are halfway through the semester, check to see if your student has any incompletes on Power School.   Thank you, Mrs. Moses

Dear parents,
As a follow up to our in class essay two weeks ago. Students will need to bring a charged iPad to class on Monday to revise their essay into a final draft. Please help to make sure that your student remembers to bring their iPad to school and charged. Thank you for you help. Mrs. Moses English 9

Sonnet 2: Minor Character, Shakespearean is due between Friday and the start of school Monday.  Also, the next book A Midsummer Night's Dream needs to be purchased by February 9.

Sonnet 1 Tybalt, rough draft is due Thursday/Friday.  The final draft is due Monday, January 11.

This week on Tuesday or Wednesday students are taking a English standards Benchmark test to establish what standards based level they are at in English.  The exam is taken online so please make sure students come to school with their iPads fully charged.  Thank you, Mrs. Moses

Students have spent the pass 2 class periods working on their News Article.  This is due to turnitin.com Thurday, November 12.

Roots 10 Test.  Just on more to next week and these are done.

Character Diary Assignments is being handed out today in class.  This is a summative assignment and both entries are due October 30th. 

Read chapters 16 and 17.

Read chapters 14 and 15.  Keep annotating for character development and look ofr turning points. Be prepared to discuss.  

 

Also just a reminder roots test are every Friday.  As of today, students are over half way through these.  New ones of these should finish up just before Thanksgiving.  Any remaining retakes can still be done after this time.

In Role Writing - see description below 1/2 - 1 page.

 

—In chapter 11 you read about Ms. Dubose and her relations with the Finch family. You will complete an in-role writing about Jem destroying Ms. Dubose’s camellias. The different point of views we will write from are Jem, Atticus, and Ms. Dubose.

—Make sure that your in-role writing focuses on questions like why does Jem snap, what did he hope to accomplish, or how does Ms. Dubose feel about her own treatment of the children, how does Atticus really feel about Ms. Dubose, what does he hope to accomplish by sending the children to Ms. Dubose, etc.

Haunting your childhood poem. Due Th/F.

Assigned T/W for Th/F classes.  Read chapters 9 and 10 and be prepared to discuss.  Also, don't forget your childhood poems (minimum 10 lines) are due too.

Roots 3 Exam is postponed until the the Th 9/24 or Fri. 9/25 of next week.  

Students have been given their quote organizers in their Th/F classes.  They had 45 plus minutes work on these in class, but most need more time.  Please finish the organizer before with at least 2 quotes per section, a total of 6 quotes.  Once these quotations are gathered students are passed the biggest barrier to starting the summative Greek values essay.    See previous uploads for documents.

First submission of Odyssey Essay due Friday by midnight.  Submit online to turnitin.com.  Previous post had codes for this.  

Roots Three test.

This is not a due date.  I have uploaded the Odyssey Essay Prompt for students to access.  The paper will be assigned by Monday.  Students are starting to gather their quotes for the essay in class Th/Fri.  I have also uploaded all the other supporting documents that will be used in class to prepare students to write. They will be given hard copies in class.  This is just in case, they lose any of them.

Paragraphs on the values found during the activity of Odysseus talks with the shades assigned on T/W will be due in the next class on Th/F.

Roots Test 2, Th/F.  Please study flash cards that you made.

Students have there Roots 1 Test Thursday/Friday.  They received there roots list last Thursday/ Friday and have been making flash cards to prepare since then.  Attached is a copy of the list.

Paragraph write up do on the Cyclops.  It is located at the back of the Cyclops packet.   We went over the reading today in class.

Reading and annotating 3 page summary of books (chapters) 1-8.  Period 4 will get their copies of this on Wednesday.
