Visual Arts (Period 8)
Course Description
Visual Arts is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore the arts in a variety of ways. Students will have the opportunity to explore artists, artworks, tools, techniques, and of course…create their own works of art. They will do a number of activities and projects using a variety of media to introduce and employ the elements of art (line, value, shape, form, color, texture and space) and principles of design. Visual Arts is designed to specifically address the California Visual and Performing Arts standards. Students will learn how to look at art and perceive it, how to apply their knowledge of artistic skills and techniques, how to incorporate elements of art into their own artworks, and how to care for and present their artwork in the best way possible. Students will have the opportunity to participate not only in the creation of artwork but in discussions and group activities surrounding the arts as well.
This class will provide students with a basic introduction into art and many aspects relating to the arts. It is my hope that this course will allow students to discover their inner artist…whether it sparks an interest in some students or develops the interest of others, so that they may continue to explore what they are capable of; may they constantly surprise themselves. I look forward to helping these students strengthen their skills and develop their ideas so that they may create visually and conceptually sound works of art that they never knew they were capable of.
