English 7 (Period 3) Assignments

Below is a generic schedule for next week - it could change if we start up on testing again.

 

1.  Poetry/Short Story Summative - Tuesday (Period 3) & Wednesday (Period 4)

2.  Jekyll and Hyde Summative - Thursday (Period 3) & Friday (Period 4)

3.  Please purchase a copy of the Princess Bride - we will begin our last novel next week.

1.  Do chapter 2 end of chapter summary and re-name the chapter

2.  Add SRW Q4 L5 words to Q4 

 

Period 6 ONLY!! Do the items above and the item listed below.

1.  Analyze the Poem Dulce et Decorum Est - find symbols, themes, and devices

 

1.  Analyze the poem "Dulce et Decorum Est" - themes, symbols, devices, & rhyme scheme (if any)

1.  If you haven't turned in Helicopter Parents, please do so ASAP!

2.  Read and analyze the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay."  Students should look for the rhyme patter, devices used, theme, and symbol.  A graphic organizer has been attached and may be used if needed.

2.  SRW formative for Q4 L2

3.  Begin creating a word stack in Quizlet for Poetry and Short Story terms.

1.  Study for Spelling Root Word Summative on Thursday.  About 10 questions on words from Semester 1 and about 10 questions from Quarter 3.

2.  Read the short story "The Piece of String," and give three examples of descriptive dialog.  Also, create a plot diagram, id the hook and what type was used, and give 1-2 examples of Snapshots/Thought Shots.

1.  Read the story of Walter Mitty and please do the following:  Create a plot diagram, What was the hook?  What type of hook was used?  What are some examples of characterization, and Give examples of snapshot/thoughtshots

 

2.  Study SRW for Q3 - summative on Thursday/Friday of this week.

 

3.  In the Snapshots packet, pick out one of the prompts and write a paragraph using either snapshots or thoughtshots.

2.  Read Araby (Google Classroom) and do a plot diagram.  Also, write down the "hook" that the author uses.  Which technique did he use?

2.  Read Harrison Bergeron and fill out a plot diagram and then give two examples of direct characterization and two examples of indirect characterization.

4.  Study for SRW formative Q3 L6

1.  Add and type up body paragraphs to Single Shard paper.

2.  Finish Single Shard questions posted in GoogleClassroom

3.  Get Spelling/Root Words into graphic organizer and/or Quizlet.   Spelling 25-30 and Roots 13-15

1.  Finish the thesis for your Single Shard paper and write the first draft of your Introductory paragraph.  Continue to fill out the rest of the organizer, especially the concrete details that you will be using.

2.  Study for SRW Q3 L4 formative on Thursday

 

1.  Finish reading through and including Chapter 10 of A Single Shard.  Don't forget to re-name the chapter and the 2-3 sentence summary at the end of each chapter.

2.  Spend some time with Spelling/Root Words

1.  Read A Single Shard - Chapters 9-10

2.  Begin preparing SRW for Q3 L3 (Spelling 13-18 and Roots 7-9)

1.  Work on SRW Q3 L2 - formative on Thursday

2.  Finish reading Ch.5-7 in Single Shard.  Don't forget to re-name the chapter and write 2-3 sentence summaries.

1.  Please begin working on the one paragraph essay for Anne Frank.  The rubric has been uploaded to google classroom.

2.  Please and review the Review Questions for Anne Frank - there will be a summative on Thursday related to this information.

3.  Please purchase a copy of the book "A Single Shard."  It is the next book we will be reading, and will begin on Monday of next week.

4.  All re-takes for Semester 1 need to be completed by Thursday if at all possible.  If you need to re-do one of the Spelling/Root Word summatives, please make sure that you spend sometime tonight and tomorrow night reviewing.

1.  Read to 23 March, 1944 - Remember to keep marking your passages with themes.

 

2.  Make your graphic organizer for Spelling words "36-40 and Root words "20-23.

1.  Read in Anne Frank to 25 March, 1943.  Don't forget to mark areas where you notice the theme.

2.  Post (Google Classroom) 5 themes and passages that you found in the assigned reading.

3.  Make sure that Anne Frank Background is completed (from Google Classroom)

1.  Read in Anne Frank through journal entry dated Tuesday, 29 September, 1942.

2.  Finish background assignment on Google Classroom.

2.  Hand-in a copy of COTW to Google Classroom and a hard copy to me.  They should be color coded.

We have reviewed and will be re-taking the Quarter 1 Spelling/Root Words summative on either Wednesday or Thursday of next week.  Use the PowerPoint, your graphic organizers, and/or your card stacks on quizlet to review.

2.  P. 3 Finish chapter 7 of COTW and do dialectical journal - P. 6 finish chapter 6 of COTW and do dialectical journal

3.  Use this week to catch up on RW reading and any outstanding entries.

1.  Finish reading Chapter 6 in COTW.  Don't forget to re-name the chapter and write a one sentence summary of the chapter.  Also, you will need to do your Dialectical Journal for chapter 6 as well.  

2.  Start your graphic organizer/quizlet card stacks for Quarter 2 List 3

3.  Pay attention to the announcement on the Spelling/Root Word re-take for Q1.

 

Finish reading Ch. 5 in Call of the Wild - do Dialectical Journal for Ch. 5 - then submit.  Don't forget that the Dialectical Journal is in Google Classroom.

1.  Start working on Spelling/Root Words for list #2 for Quarter 2.

2.  Work on RW #10 - please make sure that you are continuing to read.

3.  Go to Google Classroom and make sure that you have completed the Dialectical Journal entries for chapters 2-4.

Do the Dialectical Journal entry for chapter 4 of COTW (on Google Classroom)

1.  Study for Spelling/Root Words formative from Q2 List 1

2.  Finish Dialectical Journal for chapter 3 - then submit it.

1.  Finish reading chapter - don't forget to rename the chapter, write a summary sentence at the end of the chapter, and do the dialectical journal that is posted on google classroom.
