Today we worked on finding missing numbers in proportional relationships. For example, if a snail travels 6.2 cm in 8 minutes, how far does he travel in 10 minutes? Today in class we really practiced the 5-D process (see notes attached). We learned how to guess and check in a manner that was more orderly than random guessing. Students will never be forced to use a certain method on the beta; however, I do encourage students to practice using this method so that when we stop guessing and start using Algebra, they have the background knowledge on how to set up the problem. Today we did a lot! We reviewed how to solve word problems involving rational numbers. Students got back their MAP test scores and we went over what they mean. Students took the LT Practice #3 on Illuminate and then updated their LT scoresheet for the unit. Students finished and turned in the worksheet that covered LT #'s 9 and 10. Lastly, students got a chance to work on a study guide. Make sure to add to what you are studying the idea of dividing by 0. Today we went over how to subtract negatives. Let's focus on the idea of add the opposite. That is, when you see a subtraction sign, and it's not two positives being subtracted, change the subtraction sign to a plus and change the sign of the number that follows. So -5-2 can be rewritten as -5+(-2) (see notes). Homework is to 3.2.1 #35, 36, 38. The learning target practice you did in class will be graded and passed back next class.

Today we learned how to convert from decimals to percents and fractions. We also learned how to go from percents to decimals as a result. Today we worked on figuring out whether the theoretical probability would change if we doubled, tripled, or any number times the sample we had (it won't because the ratio will always stay the same). We then moved into fractions and talked about how we can use the giant 1 to create equivalent fractions to either convert a fraction to a percent by getting an equivalent fraction out of 100. We also used the giant 1 to find equivalent fractions to make common denominators so we can add the fractions. Notes are attached. Homework is to do 1.2.3 #80,81,84 and 1.2.5 #103,105,106.
