Four Questions: Use Google Searches, the NPS Websites, and any other resources to answer the following questions on a Google Doc. Turn it in to Google Classroom.
1. Select ONE of the four national parks above: which did you pick? Describe at least one geologic time period that is present in the geology of that National Park.
2. “Go” to the park and make an observation of the rocks---what do you notice? What do you wonder? What does it remind you of?
3. Are there any fossils at your park? What kind, or why might this not be a good place for fossils to form? Use the National Park Fossil Record to help you on your search: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/fossils/fossil-parks-list.htm
4. If you could visit any of these National Parks, which would you MOST want to visit? Least? Why?

📝Work due by end of day on Tuesday, 3/31:
👉Geology of a National Park Virtual Field Trip: Select one of these national parks and explore the geology, watch the video attached and answer the four questions below:
Berkeley Fossil Tour: https://ucmp.berkeley.edu/education/explorations/tours/fossil/5to8/Page9a.html

National Park Virtual Trips: https://artsandculture.withgoogle.com/en-us/national-parks-service/parks
Least? Why?

Please complete this reading assignment Individually in class and turn in your work. If you have extra time please compare your procedures for the lab in your teams for when I return on Friday. Thank you for being good and doing good while I'm sick.
Due:
Write your experimental question, data table, and procedure for the lab found on pg. 146-147 (eBook Unit 2: Lesson 2/Explore/Explain: Part 2: Magnet Strength and the Magnetic Force)
We will complete the lab in class.
We will complete the lab in class.
Due:
WHAT:
In your lab notebook: Experimental Question, Data Table, and Procedures for Lab 2: Analyze the Magnetic Force
HOW:
Write the experimental question in the form:
1)What is the effect of of the independent variable on the dependent variable measured by data with units controlling for potential issues?
2) Build a data table for your lab based on your question and...
3) Write procedures so that you are ready for Cates-approval on Friday to run your lab.

Due:
WHAT: pg. 143 four questions in investigative form from class.
HOW: Last week, you used HMH's portal to copy two of the three research questions and to write two new research questions. Now that we've reviewed how to write experimental questions in the format, "What is the effect of (the independent variable) on the (dependent variable) measured by (data with units) and (controlling for potential issues)?" Please re-write your research questions as investigative questions. You may do this in the portal OR on a separate piece of paper OR in your notebook, but please click "DONE" and bring your work to class with you to edit before we run our labs on Wednesday.
EXAMPLE:
The research question from pg. 143 says, "How do the magnets affect materials that are not magnets?"
The completed Investigative question is: What is the effect of copper, iron, or plastic on the attraction or repulsion of a magnet measured by distance the item travels and controlling for type of magnet, time, and distance of objects?
We got this by following the the thinking path below:
Independent Variable (What is being manipulated): Copper Wire, Iron strip, or plastic (from materials list pg. 143)
Dependent Variable: (the responding variable): Reaction between magnet and material. (What does this look like? They connect, push away, or nothing happens. How do we measure this? With what unit?) Put the material at 10 cm, then 5 cm, then 0 cm and watch what happens.
Controlled Variables: (What could mess up our results?) We should control: type of magnet, distance of objects from the magnets, time, etc.
Potential issues we can't control: Lab materials given to us, time for the lab.

Hi Class,
Please remember to write three questions for our review game on Wednesday. These should be about the material most likely to be on the exam from Lessons 4 and 5 in the book pgs. 70-106. Build an answer key on a separate sheet (or scroll down to a new page for your answers). All questions must be multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, or diagram-based. Good Luck! To the victors go the sweet, delicious donuts. We will submit these in class, so please feel free to do them on paper!

Hello!
Thank you so much for subbing for me today. This sub plan is replicated EXACTLY in Google Classroom so that students can help guide you through our routines.
8th grade is a challenging time for many students, thank you for your patience and kindness with my wonderful teenagers today. My students are bright and capable of running the class, please allow them to showcase their awesomeness and help support their independence as needed. Remind students to be patient with each other, that only one student talks at a time and that side conversations should not exist when our Joy Jumpstarters and other student leaders are speaking.
General rules: NO BACKPACKS or CELL PHONES are allowed in the room. I allow students to go to lockers or use the bathroom ONE at a time---have them take the correct pass (hanging on the locker). Students should be kind at all times, if they aren’t please let me know. Students should be supervised and remain in the room at all times (they may not leave the room to “study in the hall” or in the senior lounge). Any student who leaves should sign out and sign in any time they leave the room including to get a drink or go to the bathroom, this should include the TIME they leave and the TIME they return. Any student who is gone longer than 7 minutes will have a plan with me when I return.
Please read this aloud to ALL my students:(It is also posted in Google Classroom)
Procedures for the Day:
Joy Jumpstarters---please nominate and vote for scientist of the week for next week, post the Agenda on the board and run the class---
Agenda: Intro---introduce guest teacher to class, Gifts of our presence, scientist of the week voting.
Review Assignment #1: Newton’s Laws Comicon (20 minutes) Students who are not finished with their comics should work on them instead of sharing.
Math Practice: Newton’s Laws Problems (20 minutes + 20 minutes to check in class)
Alpha: Newton’s Laws (30 minutes)
Closing: Rank our Level of Awesome (Google Forms)
Today you have three pieces: The Newton’s Laws Comicon, a review sheet with math practice, and the Alpha. Also, it would be nice to have your feedback on our work today (see the Form attached).
Good Luck on the Alpha! See you Monday! You're the sweetest muffins in the basket!

Hello Students, if you're receiving this message, it means I'm home sick. I would much rather be in the classroom with you, and I'm sad to miss out. I'm grateful to have students like you, and I'm looking forward to seeing you in class on Monday. Hello Awesome Guest Teacher: My students are fully capable of running the class procedures to run our class in my absence including writing on the board, calling the room to attention with chimes, and reviewing the agenda. please remind them that I know they can do it and they’re representing me in my absence---I’m counting on their awesomeness today while I’m sick, it’s a big responsibility that they can handle with a bit of support.
Joy Jumpstarters---please work together with excellent professional communication to post this Agenda on the board, and run the class---help make sure everyone can access a chromebook to review and deliver the instructions. Please facilitate the scientist of the week nomination, voting, count the votes and post them: remember to stand to nominate and explain WHY. You're representing me and our class, thank you for stepping up to the opportunity.
