Welcome!

My name is Emily Mead, and I’m excited to begin my sixth year teaching both AP Chemistry and general Chemistry here at Western Sierra. I’ve taught a variety of science courses, but Chemistry remains my true passion. I’m honored to continue growing as an educator and look forward to working with you this year.

About me:
I was born and raised in Los Angeles and am a big Dodgers fan (and a Denver Broncos fan by marriage!). I hold a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from San Diego State University and a Master’s in Teaching from Sacramento State University. I love everything science-related, and in my free time, I enjoy baking, outdoor adventures, and spending time with my husband and daughter. You’ll often find us snowboarding, backpacking, or by a lake.

What to expect in class:
My goal is to create an inclusive, supportive, and engaging classroom where all students can thrive. I believe education should focus on student strengths and growth and that every student deserves to learn in a welcoming general education setting.

Throughout the year, we’ll explore scientific phenomena through inquiry-based learning, develop lab skills, and collaborate as a team. I’m committed to being a continuous learner alongside my students and encourage you to reach out anytime you need support or accommodations.
