Welcome!

Hello! My name is Emily Mead, and I’ve been teaching at Western Sierra since 2020. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach a variety of science courses, but chemistry has always been my greatest passion. I’m excited to continue growing as an educator and look forward to learning alongside my students this year.

About Me

I was born and raised in Los Angeles and am a lifelong Dodgers fan (and, thanks to my husband, a Denver Broncos fan too!). I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from San Diego State University and my Master of Arts in Teaching from Sacramento State University.

Outside of the classroom, I love all things science, baking, spending time outdoors, and making memories with my husband and daughter. You’ll often find us snowboarding in the winter, backpacking through the mountains, or relaxing by a lake.

What to Expect in Class

My goal is to create a classroom where every student feels welcomed, supported, and challenged to grow. I believe that all students can succeed when they are encouraged to build on their strengths in an inclusive learning environment.

Throughout the year, we'll investigate real-world scientific phenomena through inquiry-based learning, strengthen our laboratory and critical thinking skills, and work collaboratively to solve problems. I strive to be a lifelong learner alongside my students and am always available to provide support, answer questions, or discuss accommodations when needed.
