Mrs.Mead's Homepage

Welcome!

My name is Emily Mead and this is my fourth year teaching here at Western Sierra Collegiate Academy. I've taught lots of different science courses but Chemistry is my passion! I am overcome with honor that I have the opportunity to continue to grow in my teaching and am so excited to work with you.

About me:

I was born and raised in LA and I am a huge fan of the Dodgers (also a Denver Broncos fan by marriage)! I received my Bachelors in Chemistry from San Diego State University and my Masters in Teaching from Sacramento State University. I absolutely love anything and everyting to do with science. In my free time I really enjoy baking and adventuring outside. You can almost always find my husband and I snowboarding, backpacking, or out on a lake somewhere.

What to expect from my class:

It is my hope that we can cultivate an inclusive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment. I strongly believe in the power of education and that it should be centered around the student. I have a passion for inclusive education, believing that ALL students have a right and to learn in the general education classroom setting. I believe in emphasizing student’s strengths and cultivating an environment for growth.

Throughout the year students will practice inquiry-based learning through the discovery and investigation of phenomena. We are going to develop and utilize laboratory skills, math, and vocabulary. We are going to learn as a group process through the practice of collaboration. It is my philosophy that everyone should be continuous learners throughout life and will emphasize to my class that I am in the process of discovery with them. I encourage students to come to me if they need additional help or assistance. I am more than happy to provide accommodations and will be flexible in doing so.

I am so excited for this school year and cannot wait to work with you!
