Advanced Placement

AP exams are an opportunity for students to earn potential college credit determined by their future university attended. Exams take place in the Spring. Students are not required to take exams, but it is highly recommended. Exams will likely take place at either Western Sierra or at William Jessup University.
We encourage all of our students to take AP exams for classes they are registered. Our recent accreditation process has also challenged us to increase our participation rate in students taking AP exams. We especially encourage sophomores to take the AP World exam as it is an opportunity to experience a college-level type exam. For those concerned that a less than passing score may hurt their college application process, please know that students can choose which AP scores to send to universities. UCs have also stated, "Although the College Board reports all AP tests results to us, students should be aware AP test scores lower than 3 will not adversely affect their chances for admission."
The College Board has changed its ordering timeline for AP exams. Exam registration is now in the fall. Exams are $94 and can be paid through the Western Sierra online store located under the departments tab on the school website. If your student receives free or reduced lunch or has extenuating circumstances that make paying for exams a financial hardship, they may fill out the AP Fee Reduction Application and turn it into Student Services. Fees will be reduced to $20 for students on free or reduced lunch and $40 for students with other qualifications. Please be aware that students receiving free or reduced lunch will also need a Sharing of Information Form on file.
The AP ordering timeline will be updated in the fall:
